Statistics of the Logistics Valley Functional Area
Inhabitants of the region and representatives of social and business entities took part in the diagnosis of the Logistics Valley’s development potential. A process of preparation of the development strategy and operational plans, involving the whole community, included interviews, surveys and meetings with main stakeholders of the Logistics Valley. The results are presented below.
Besides, we present also statistical data for the years 2013-2016 related to 5 thematic areas: space, people, economy, budget and communication infrastructure for each city and commune.
DIAGNOSIS OF THE LOGISTICS VALLEY’S DEVELOPMENT POTENTIAL
Conclusions from the survey of inhabitants
- over 75% of the respondents positively or very positively evaluated their place of living
- over 60% of the respondents gave a positive or very positive assessment of the quality and availability of public services
- about 50% of the respondents gave a positive assessment of the spatial development
- 25% of the respondents gave a high or very high assessment of the communication network
- 25% of the respondents gave negative or very negative assessment of the labour market, while over 30% had a positive or very positive opinion about it
- nearly half of the number of the respondents are looking forward to new logistics investments. Every fourth respondent is against building more facilities, including warehouses supporting the logistics sector
- about 40% of the respondents positively evaluated the influence of logistics facilities on the attractiveness of the whole area
Conclusions from the survey of social and business entities
- Economic situation in the functional area is good or very good. Many industries reported dynamic development increased by big public investments.
- The Logistics Valley is dominated by the industries connected with the port. This translates into a significant share of employment in transport, forwarding and logistics. Industrialization of the region is poor. Locating industry in the region will increase chances that the demand for contracting services will grow, and hence the whole region will develop at a faster pace. Tourism, offshore industry and services will become the fastest developing sectors and a strong point of the functional area. Nuisance sectors have smaller chances for development.
- Infrastructure development is a necessary condition to be satisfied not only in the context of the Logistics Valley but also for the development of the entire region.
- There is no problem of workforce insufficiency. Companies prepare their employees on their own, conducting courses and training, implementing or using external support, such as of employment agencies. It is reported that higher education is not compatible with the requirements of the labour market. The local government is expected to take actions to improve this situation.
